Below is a sample of courses available to both members and non-members. They are informal as well as informative. Courses are run as demand dictates. See club notice board or press ‘Course Dates’ button.


PHOTOGRAPHY FOR BEGINNERS
Skill level: Novice
Requirements: A camera, although its an ideal course to establish which camera
is right for you.
Subjects covered:

Taking better pictures by having a greater understanding of
your camera and its features. Creating an eye for pictures by using established and creative composition and depth of field techniques. Preview of the next stage course ‘Introduction to Digital Imaging’

 

INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL IMAGING
Skill level: Novice
Requirements: Have a basic understanding of photography.
Subjects covered:

Understanding digital techniques. How to store, manipulate
and print images contained on your memory card. Introduction
to software programmes that allow post image editing.

 

PHOTOSHOP FOR BEGINNERS
Skill level: Novice (Introduction to Digital Imaging course an advantage)
Requirements: Access to Photoshop 7 and above.
Subjects covered:

Introduction to the world’s most popular imaging software:
Adobe Photoshop. How to load Photoshop, set the various
Preferences and learn the various tools. The importance of
colour management, including monitor and printer.

 

ADVANCED PHOTOSHOP
Skill level: Intermediate
Requirements: Previous attendance at Photoshop for Beginners course.
Access to Photoshop 7 and above.
Subjects covered:

Having grasped the basics we discover the power of
Photoshop, its ability to transform your photo images, that its
only boundary is your imagination. We take you step by step
through various image making processes.

 

INTRODUCTION TO DEVELOPING & PRINTING
Skill level: Novice
Requirements: An interest in traditional developing and printing.
Subjects covered:

This is a practical course that takes place in our own darkroom facilities. It is an introduction to chemical processing, how to develop black and white films and how to make enlargements.

 

ALL ABOUT STUDIO LIGHTING
Skill level: Novice
Requirements: Camera and tripod.
Subjects covered:

Different types of lighting units. Understanding how to set up lighting for different effects. Getting correct exposure.

 

INTRODUCTION TO PORTRAITURE & STILL LIFE
Skill level: Novice
Requirements: Camera and tripod.
Subjects covered:

Choosing the right background. Choosing the right lighting
Communicating with subject. Creating atmosphere.
